Project Overview
Title: Touch the Art 2026
Category: Interactive Art Exhibition
Date: May – July 2026
My Role: Selected Exhibiting Artist
I was selected to participate in the fourth annual Touch the Art Experience in Austin, a unique exhibition that completely flips the traditional "do not touch" gallery rule on its head. Held at the ART Gallery at Canopy in East Austin, this sensory-driven event focuses on inclusivity and accessibility, creating a space where low-vision, blind, and sighted visitors alike can fully engage with the artwork.
For the exhibition, I designed and created two interactive pieces:
- Spinning Grackles: A circular, wall-mounted piece that viewers can physically spin. It features three local Austin grackles, each crafted out of distinctly different materials to provide contrasting tactile surfaces.
- The Great Beyond: A deeply textured painting incorporating layers of hanging beads. This piece encourages visitors to run their hands across the surface, creating both a distinct physical sensation and a gentle, audible sound experience.
